What Has God To Do With Earthquakes?

Hode Jesus' disciples asked Him what will be the sign of Your coming and the end of the age? Jesus told them that there would be wars and rumours of wars, nation rising up against nation and kingdom against kingdom and in various places there would be famines and earthquakes, (see Matt.24.6&7 and Mark 13:8) but explained that these were just the beginning of birth pangs. Jesus went on to explain that there would be signs in sun, moon and stars and upon the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world for the powers of the heavens will be shaken, (Luke 21:25&26). Jesus infers through His answer to His disciples that earthquakes are not random 'natural' events but rather significant events which are caused by Almighty God shaking not only the heavens but the earth.

So what has God to do with earthquakes? This section gives some background as to how God has moved at those times when He has shaken the earth in warning. Let us see to it that we do not refuse Him who is now speaking so loudly.

Following the prophetic message brought to us here in Ulverston in August 2009 (see the message in the section entitled 'Change Ahead') in which the Lord was saying that we had entered the time of wars, rumours of wars and earthquakes, the following are just some of the major earthquakes that have occurred :-

12th January 2010 - Haiti - Magnitude 7.0 - 316,000 people died and 300,000 people were injured. The Cathedral caught fire and the Archbishop of Haiti was killed.
27th February 2010 - Chile - Magnitude 8.8 - One of the largest ever on record. 521 people lost their lives.
4th September 2010 - Canterbury, New Zealand - Magnitude 7.1 - There was little damage but this earthquake was to impact the next earthquake which was soon to strike Christchurch.
22nd February 2011 - Christchurch, New Zealand - Magnitude 6.3 - 182 people died and 1500/2000 people were injured. 14 City Centre Churches were damaged badly or needed demolishing. The city centre remains unstable.
11th March 2011 - Honshu, Japan - Magnitude 9.0 - This earthquake caused a giant tsunami with over 12,000 deaths, about 3000 injured and 12,000 missing. The estimated damage is $309 billion.
24th March 2011 - Burma - Magnitude 6.8 - 120 died and 14 Buddhist monasteries were destroyed.
6th July 2011 - Kermadec Islands Region, New Zealand - Magnitude 7.8 - no damage. Reported as insignificant

When this earthquake of 6th July 2011 in the Kermadec Islands Region of New Zealand had happened but not reported the Lord gave a prophecy - "They will say this is 'insignificant' but it is not insignificant.... a mammoth earthquake is coming!"

In Chapter 2 of David Wilkerson's 1974 book, 'The Vision', he stated:-

"The United States is going to experience in the not-too-distant future the most tragic earthquakes in its history. One day soon this nation will be reeling under the impact of the biggest news story of modern times. It will be coverage of the biggest most disastrous earthquake in history. It will cause widespread panic and fear, Without a doubt, it will become one of the most completely reported earthquake ever. Television networks will suspend all programming and carry all day coverage. Another earthquake, possibly in Japan may precede the one that I see coming here. There is not the slightest doubt in my mind about this forthcoming massive earthquake in our continent. I am not at all convinced that this earthquake will take place in California. In fact, I believe it is going to take place where it is least expected. This terrible earthquake may happen in an area that not known as an earthquake belt. It will be so high on the Richter scale that it will trigger two other major earthquakes."

Such prophecies are awesome but as we head for this most significant time in history are these indeed warnings the world need to take heed of?
